Tips for Finding the Right Cycling Bicycle

As you know, there are numerous reasons to start cycling. Some people choose to ride bicycles because they cannot afford the cost of gas and automobile maintenance. Some decide to cycle because they want to have less of an impact on the environment when traveling.

And others still are riding simply because they love to ride. No matter what the reason is for choosing a bicycle, there are some things you should keep in mind before you decide. If you really want to choose the perfect cycling bicycle, you need to think about more than just what it looks like. Contained hereafter are some hints and tips you can use to pick the bicycle that is perfect for you.

You need to make sure you pick a bike that is the right size. The measurement of your inseam is needed for this. To do this, simply run a measuring tape up the inside of your leg from the bottom of your foot to your groin. You should be able to sit on your bike while keeping both feet flat on the ground. This is for safety more than anything else, if your brakes should fail you will not be able to easily stop the bike otherwise.

For a road bike you should take away 9" from the inseam measurement you took earlier. The size of the tires a road bike uses are the reason for this. City riding is done with thin tires, designed to work perfectly with the smooth concrete roads and sidewalks you find in a city. For a mountain bike you will need to take 12" away from your total inseam. Again this is to account for the size of tires. Mountain bike tires will be thick and designed for mountainous terrain. You can use mountain bikes for city cycling, but the opposite is not true and they are nowhere near as good on city streets as road bikes.

How many gears do you need? Traveling through flat areas requires far less gears than riding in a mountainous area. A bike isn’t better just because it has more gears than another. Sometimes bike riders don’t ever use all the gears on their bike. Don’t spend money on something you won’t use. Know how you’ll ride your bike; make sure you have the correct gears for traveling, especially when this is your main mode of transport. When you are searching for the appropriate cycling bicycle to suit you, there are a number of factors to consider. Are you going to be riding your bicycle every day or riding it only when you feel the urge to? What height makes you feel the most comfortable? Would you more rather be able to put your feet flat on the ground or would you rather have that few inches between your feet and the ground when you are sitting down? You will need to consider each of these things when choosing your bicycle..
